About SPECTROMETER, JUNIOR

SPECTROMETER, JUNIOR

Low cost model with features comparable to standard spectrometer, and main structural parts of heavy casting, ensuring ruggedness.

Base.
Heavy, cast iron base, oven baked paint. Base and collimator tube pillars are cast into one unit. Heaviness of base ensures stability.

Scale. Main scale, diameter 17.5cm, divided 0-360 X 1, mounted on the same central shaft as that of telescope, with locking screw, and independently rotatable. Spring-loaded vernier scale with LC 1/10 (6 minutes) mounted on telescope pillar moves in groove along rim of main scale.

Telescope. Mounted on a moveable pillar, with fine adjustment screw, locking screw and axis adjustment. Achromatic objective of diameter 25mm and focal length 17.8cm. Ramsden eyepiece with crossline graticule. Helical sliding focusing arrangement of objective.

Collimator. Achromatic objective of diameter 25mm and focal length 17.8cm. Mounted on a fixed pillar with axis adjustment and vertical slit. Slit has one spring loaded, 6mm jaw adjustable by a screw. With helical sliding focusing arrangement of objective.

Prism table:  Diameter 8cm, mounted on the main scale table with three spring-loaded, leveling screws. Marked with grooved lines to assist positioning of prism. Has clamping units for mounting prism and diffraction grating.

Standard accessories include prism clamp, grating holder, tommy bar to adjust axis of teleascope and collimator tube, and magnifier lens to read vernier.

Precision and Durability for Science Education

Engineered for longevity, the Junior Spectrometer features lifelong engraved graduation and robust brass construction. Its achromatic optics and smooth adjustments make it a vital instrument for reliable spectrometry experiments in laboratories and classrooms. The stable cast base and chemically polished finish guarantee both performance and an attractive appearance.

Flexible Optical Measurements

With its adjustable telescope and collimator (each achromatic), the Junior Spectrometer offers flexibility for a range of physics investigations. The rotatable, height-adjustable prism table and precise vernier scale (with 1 minute of arc accuracy) facilitate detailed optical studies, making this tool highly efficient and user-friendly for educational applications.

FAQs of SPECTROMETER, JUNIOR:

Q: How does the Junior Spectrometer ensure high accuracy in measurements?

A: The instrument is equipped with a lifelong engraved circular graduated scale (0-200 or 0-360), a vernier system offering minimum readings of 1 minute of arc, and achromatic optics. Adjustable components reduce parallax errors, ensuring precise and reliable spectrometry results.

Q: What experiments can be performed using this spectrometer in a physics laboratory?

A: It is ideal for experiments analyzing optical rotation with the graticule vernier, measuring spectral lines using the supplied diffraction grating or glass prism, and determining refractive indices, angles of prisms, and studying light dispersion.

Q: Where is the Junior Spectrometer best utilized?

A: This device is specifically designed for use in school and college physics laboratories, science education centers, and university research settings involved in basic optical experiments and spectroscopy.

Q: When should a spectrometer be chosen for laboratory work over simpler optical tools?

A: Spectrometers are preferred when precise angular measurements of light, wavelength determination, or refractive index calculations are necessarytasks that exceed the capabilities of basic protractors, goniometers, or direct observation.

Q: What accessories are included with the spectrometer, and what are their functions?

A: The set includes one diffraction grating and one glass prism, used for dispersing light into spectra and analyzing different wavelengths, essential for various optics and spectroscopy experiments in educational settings.

Q: How is the spectrometer assembled and prepared for experiments?

A: Assembly involves positioning the telescope, collimator, and prism table for the specific experiment. The adjustable slit, focus mechanisms, and leveling screws allow fine-tuning for accuracy. The device operates manually, requiring no electrical power.

Q: What are the benefits of using a spectrometer with achromatic optics and a heavy cast base?

A: Achromatic optics ensure clear images without color distortion, while the heavy base provides stability, reducing vibrations during precise measurements. This combination results in highly efficient and accurate experimental outcomes.
